Bathroom Vanity Workday #2

I was back out at the shop in Painesville again with my uncle. We made some good progress on the vanity. the sides panels were put together (a shaker style), and the 3 doors were also put together (same shaker style). The doors will have a faux drawer look when finished.

I sanded the begeezes out of the front and rear frames. My hands were vibrating for an hour after.

Next step is putting it all together. That will be in about 2 weeks. Hopefully by the time we get to staining it, it will be time to install it.

It is all coming together. Sorry, no photos this time.

Bathroom Workday #10

The electrical is done. Finally.

We got the vent fan wired properly so one switch controls the fan, one switch controls the light. Very important, and a bit more difficult than expected. The vanity light switch is installed, and a temporary fixture is in place.

A sheet of drywall was installed on the ceiling.

Next up is the plumbing for the vanity and the new shower wall.

Getting closer!

NFL Draft Day 2007

Mark this day. The Browns made draft day exciting again. It was hard to walk away saying things like: “what were they thinking?” or “why did they pick him?” or “why would anyone trade up to get that guy?”

I was all set to turn off the TV, walk away from the draft, and consider not renewing my season tickets if I did not hear, “With the 3rd pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns select Joe Thomas,” or “The Cleveland Browns trade the 3rd pick to…”

And it was nice to see Mel Kiper’s draft board take a hit with the Browns not drafting Brady Quinn.

ESPN can be merciless when it comes to a Top 5 pick not getting picked, sitting at Radio City Music Hall waiting for a team to call his name. Every pick that goes by, they show the player’s reaction. It is almost heartless. And yet makes for interesting TV. I couldn’t get away, who was going to pick the kid who probably shouldn’t have been there.

To everyone’s amazement, the Browns worked the phones, worked out a deal with Dallas, and got 2 of their Top 5 picks on day 1 of the draft.

Will this make the Browns a playoff team next year? Probably not. But does it make the fans excited? Yes. Should we see improvement? Yes. Will we see ticket prices go up after next season? Probably.

All I want is for Brady Quinn to not be the next Tim Couch, and for the Browns to improve on their 4-12 record.

What I Like About Cleveland: Access

I recently moved from the Heights to the near west side. I know, I crossed the river, how dare I?

When I lived in the Heights, I thought the east side was very accessible. 20 minutes on side streets I could get anywhere and to the highways. No need to drive on the highways. It was great.

Now I live in West Park, and in 30 minutes or less I can be anywhere: the Airport, Avon, downtown, the Heights, Willoughby, Independence.

I like that Cleveland has the feeling of access. I feel like I can get anywhere in the city quickly, easily, and with minimal traffic (aside the highway fender benders).

Drive times are short. Traffic jams are a myth. And many places can be reached with a minimal number of turns, street usage, and stop lights, and speed + stop-light cameras.

Game day downtown? Everyone has a short cut, a back way, a secret parking lot, side street or alley to park.

I like that I can get anywhere in Cleveland, with as little hassle as possible.

Back in the saddle…

I took a little time off after my birthday from writing… but now I am back with daily (or as close to daily) posts.

Thanks for reading.
