One week with Google Chrome
I am a Safari users.
I have tried to use FireFox as my default browser, and because of the plug-in architecture, I open it from time to time to use the developer plug-ins. By my biggest problem with Firefox is that when I need to use it, I have to wait for everything to update, and there seems to be updates every time I launch the application.
Late last week, Google Chrome released a Mac version that supports extension. With Chrome being on the same WebKit platform that Safari uses, I am going to give it a whirl.
My first browser action this morning was to enable Chrome as my default browser, and my plan is to run it through my paces, and see how it stands up.
Let the games begin.

I have been pushing the limits of my available hard drive space. With almost 400GB of iTunes content, and 600GB of Time Machine backups for the iMac and the Macbook, my available HD space is running short, quickly.
I have been trying to plan for a future solution, and everything keep pointing me to the Drobo. If you don’t know about the Drobo, you can check it out at www.drobo.com.
Wish me luck, I hope to win a Drobo.

Awesome.
This will make blogging from the road so much easier.
Back to packing, more to come.

iPhone 3G – The Super Phone
I was able to resell my original iPhone on eBay for more than the cost of a new 16BG iPhone 3G. So I went back and forth, and decided to go get in line at the Apple Store at Legacy Village.
I arrived at 6:30am, my targeted time. Which is amazing, for those who know me, to be up and anywhere before 9:00am is a miracle.
I estimated that I was about 60-70th in line. And I set up my tailgate chair, popped in the headphones, and listened to a podcast while I waited.
I was greeted by an Apple Store employee around 9:15am. I was in front of a 17in Mac Book Pro plugged in for activation by 9:30am. I was told to go home and activate from home around 10:05am.
Around 9:00am the activation snafu started to ramp up. More and more computers were being converted to activation centers as each person took longer and longer to get into iTunes and activated. I was told it was supposed to take 1-3 minutes…
The Apple Store employees were great, each one was smiling on this busy, hectic, and crazy day that was about to get busier, more hectic, and crazier.
I met some nice people in line, and standing around the Mac Books, and iMacs.
At 12:15p, in the comfort of my office, I was finally able to connect to iTunes and activate (after the 93rd iTunes refresh).
The phone feels great in your hand. The plastic doesn’t feel cheap like I thought it would. And my white one hide the finger prints much better than the black ones i’ve seen.
3G is much faster. That is a given. And the GPS is pretty cool. Aside from watching the pulsing dot race across the Google Map as I drive 70, er… 55-60 miles per hour on my way home.
But there are three things that make me happy about this phone.
1) the 2.0 software. This is a benefit I would have been able to enjoy if I kept my old iPhone, but this software offers some new options that make the phone better (Contacts accessible from the home screen, and contact search), and of course the App Store will over 500 downloadable applications, and many more to come each week for sure.
2) GPS. Not for directions, but for the location based options on some of the applications. You can use mobile Yellow Pages to find restaurants near you, and thanks to GPS, click on current location, and it find the places nearest to you, from where you currently stand.
3) 16GB. This was my number 1 reason for upgrading, I wanted more than 8GB of space. With Apps, and with more room for more movies for upcoming trips, the larger HD was a plus.
I am happy with my new iPhone.
Now all I need is a WordPress App so I can make these updates from my iPhone.
